John takes pleasure in photographing great musicians and performances.  He has been forunate enough to photograph the Gilmore International Keyboard Festival ever since it started 20 years ago.  Here are some of the best:

9/21/09  The Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra opened its new season with a semi-staged version of Turandot Saturday evening.  Check the gallery under People for the best photos of this glorious performance.

12/27/09  Enjoying the holidays here in the Phoenix area with the grand kids.  The weather has been great.  Haven't gotten to photograph the birds at the Water Ranch at the Riparian as much as I would like so far, but we are going to be here a while more.  Planning to stop at Bosque del Apache on the way home to do some more bird photography.  Bird photography here in the Southwest is more enjoyable that back in Michigan.  The birds are approachable and not 80' over your head in the tree canopy.

1/1/10  I've been to the Riparian a couple of times lately.  Yesterday was the best.  Lots of egrets.  Haven't seen much of anything but water birds.  I will be going again tomorrow.  I reorganized the Rt. 66 Album under Galleries into sub albums for each state.

PHOTOS PUBLISHED  Two books came out recently with a few of my photos.  For drag fans, check out David Rockwell's "We Were The Ramchargers."  It is a very thorough history of the team and wild age of drag racing.  I've learned a lot about what was going on back then, even though I was there shooting the photos.  For road racers, look at John Starkey's "Lola, The Sports Prototyple & Can Am Cars" for two photos I shot at Riverside in the late sixties.

2/3/10  Still working on my photos from Canyon de Chelley, Monument Valley, Grand Canyon and Route 66 from our trip last month to Arizona.  They will be on the web site soon.  The reknown Department of Dance at Western Michigan University is gearing up for their Winter Dance Gala this weekend.  I shot their rehearsal Monday evening.  It is an impressive recital with many beautiful numbers and some funny ones too.

All afternoon as we drove across South Dakota, a storm developed.  It finally struck as we neared the Badlands with rain and sleet.  Then as we entered the park about sunset, the storm cleared and the light was beautiful.  I got the cameras out and shot landscapes.

One August evening, a storm cleared from the Badlands, South Dakota as I photographed.
