With no musical talent, I take pleasure in just photographing great musicians and performances. Here are some of the best that I shot for the Gilmore International Keyboard Festival:

5/26/09 Just picked up the mounted eighteen black and white prints at Kalamazoo Color Lab for my Art Hop exhibit. I printed them on my Epson R2400 either 12" x 12" or 12" x 18." The Color Lab mounted them flush on 1/4" black gator board for me. They do an excellent job doing this. Much better than if I did it with a box cutter and a straight edge. The show is of documentary images I shot 25 to 35 years ago in downtown Kalamazoo of things that seemed to show Kalamazoo evolving and may or may not survive. Not necessarily historic buildings or important architecture, rather how the town reflected the people who lived here.
Last Friday, Nancy and I went to the National Motor Sports Memoriabilia Show in Indianapolis. I am compiling a history of the McNamara Race Team that was based here in Kalamazoo during the 1950's. Owned by Lee Elkins, who also owned a large local truck line, the team campaigned midgets, dirt cars and speedway cars apparently ending in 1959. I found a number of good photos of the McNamara drivers and cars at Indy. The show was 80% open wheel oval track oriented, but there were some good exceptions. Still looking for more information on the team's activities, so if you know something about the McNamara team or you know someone who does, let me know
Sunday, we went out to the Gilmore Car Museum for "Cacklefest." Got there too late to hear the dragsters fire up, but did shoot a Chevy small block powered concrete mixer and a jet bike. The pedal bike, not motorcycle, had a small jet mounted on the frame. It was the noisest vehicle there, I'll bet. Took a quick walk through of their drag racing exhibit that features more than 20 of my drag racing images. It is a great show and one of the many reasons you should visit the museum, north of Kalamazoo.
AUTO INDUSTRY RUMOR DENIED 2June2009 Here in Kalamazoo it is becoming apparent that one of the leading potential buyers of the Hummer brand is not Checker Motors. It was suggested last week that Checker could get back into the car business by buying Hummer and rebadging them as Marathons. The advantages of such a deal would have been the return of a the former number four U. S. car builder. Hummer/Marathons would once again be spacious and rugged. In addition, the new Checker Marathons would be much more aerodynamic and get better milage. As before, Checkers would have Chevrolet power. Checker fans across the U. S. have had their hopes dashed once more.
6/8/09 Just added a gallery of photos from the Classic Car Club of America Grand Experiece Concours at the Gilmore Car Museum yesterday. It is under Galleries.
